Weathered Wood Gel Stain Pint by Old Masters 82008
82008
Regular price $20.49Old Masters Weathered Wood Gel Stain Pint 82008
Why Stain?
Old Masters uses only the finest ingredients to create the highest quality stains available today. Old Masters stains can be used to:
-Add rich color and depth to a variety of surfaces, including wood, fiberglass, metal, and composition surfaces.
-Change existing colors on previously finished surfaces
-Match color tone on different kinds of woods and non-porous surfaces, such as fiberglass.
Where to Use
Gel Stain is specifically formulated for use on nonporous surfaces such as fiberglass, primed metal, and composition surfaces and is also suitable for wood applications. Especially recommended for woods such as pine, birch, maple, poplar, and cherry. Excellent for vertical surfaces. For outdoor use when topcoated with a protective exterior clear finish.
Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from dirt, wax, grease, glue, and other contaminants or penetration and adhesion will be affected. Wood surfaces must be sanded smooth. Remove dust with a tack rag or a lint-free cloth dampened with mineral spirits. Surface defects should be repaired with an appropriate patching material.
Application
Stain application varies based on surface material. Please see application instructions below.
Application on Bare Wood: Apply stain liberally with brush or soft rag and remove excess, wiping in the direction of the grain. For a darker color, re-stain when first coat is dry. For a lighter color, wipe with a rag dampened with paint thinner before stain has dried.
Application on Fiberglass & Composition Surfaces: Stain one section or panel at a time. Apply a liberal coat of Gel Stain with a firm synthetic brush or lint-free rag and work the stain across and into the grain uniformly, feathering out streaks while the stain is wet. Wipe brush often on a lint-free rag to remove excess stain.
Application over Painted Surfaces: To create a simulated wood look, apply stain to painted surface with foam or bristle brush or cheesecloth using long, smooth strokes. Realistic woodgrain patterns can be created by using the Old Masters Wood Graining Tool, as illustrated in the Old Masters Wood Graining Booklet.
Application over Previously Finished Surfaces: Scuff sand surface before application. Remove dust. Apply a liberal coat of Gel Stain with a firm synthetic brush or lint-free rag and work the stain across and into the grain uniformly, feathering out streaks while stain is wet. Wipe brush often on a lint-free rag to remove excess stain.
If applying stain exteriorly, top coating with an exterior clear finish is strongly recommended.
Mixing and Tinting
Custom colors can be achieved by intermixing colors or by adding up to 10 ounces of universal or industrial colorant per gallon. The amount of colorant added may affect its performance and extend dry time. To lighten Gel Stain, mix any proportion with Natural Gel Stain. Stir for uniform consistency. DO NOT THIN.
Tinting
Approximately 1,000 to 1,200 square feet per gallon. If the wood is finely sanded or nonporous, coverage is approximately 800 to 1,600 square feet per gallon. If the surface is porous, coverage is approximately 300 to 500 square feet per gallon. Coverage will vary significantly depending on application method and condition of wood.
Drying Time
Approximately 6 to 8 hours depending upon temperature, humidity, air movement, and the amount of stain on the surface. For additional color depth, a second coat of stain can be applied after 8 hours. Ideal drying conditions recommended are 70° to 75°F and 35 to 50% humidity.
** Due to the nature and depth of color for the stain color Carbon Black, the minimum dry time is 24 hours. Dry time may also be extended due to excess stain application or lack of stain penetration.
Cleanup
Using a cleaning solvent, such as paint thinner or mineral spirits, is recommended for cleanup. The use of paint thinners or mineral spirits may violate VOC compliancy in your area. Check with your local government agencies to ensure proper compliancy.
DANGER: Rags, steel wool, sanding residue, and other wastes used or soaked with this product may spontaneously catch fire if improperly discarded. No ignition source is required for these wastes to start on fire by themselves. Immediately place rags, steel wool, sanding residue, and other wastes used or soaked with this product in a sealed, water-filled metal container. Dispose of in accordance with local fire regulations.
Recommended Finish Coat
We recommend Old Masters clear finishes. However, this stain can be top coated with most clears. If a lacquer topcoat is desired, test for compatibility before using. For exterior use, we suggest Old Masters Ascend Exterior® or Old Masters Spar-Marine Varnish. When applying water-based finishes, allow a minimum of 24 hours before top coating.
MAX VOC: 550 grams/liter (4.6 lbs/gal)

Natural Tint Base Gel Stain Pint by Old Masters 80108
5780108
Regular price $20.49Old Masters Natural Tint Base Gel Stain Pint 80108

American Walnut Gel Stain Pint by Old Masters 81808
81808
Regular price $20.49Old Masters American Walnut Gel Stain Pint 81808
